For example, a 10TB virtual file system can be created for a single customer against 5TBs of shared physical disk. Only the data that is copied to the file system takes up physical space. Overtime the 5TB volume capacity will increase. Once it hits a specified threshold an alert is triggered to remind the administrator to add to the storage pool. New disks with greater capacity and lower prices can be added saving money and delaying costly early over-provisioning.
