Access to files on the storage cloud can be performed via any node as each presents a view of the global namespace. Any user may access any file and see that file in the context of a single directory tree, contingent to Access Control Lists (ACLs) and file read/write locking. The consolidated view of the storage cloud greatly reduces the complexities of localized file management, access and administration.
The ParaScale cloud storage software supports the ability to present virtual file systems or quotas of any size without needing to allocate a physical storage pool of equal size. The virtual file system can be expanded or contracted at anytime without downtime. This helps administrators to avoid over-allocation of resources and silos of storage. For example, an administrator can create a virtual file system that is much larger than the physical capacity in the storage cloud. As this virtual file system starts to fill up an email will be triggered to alert the administrator to add more disk. Disk can be purchased in real-time leveraging ever decreasing costs and expanding capacities.
