ParaScale and Moonwalk have partnered together to bring to market a cloud-based Hierarchical Storage Manager Solution.

How it works

Using ParaScale, enterprises can build a secure private cloud within their data center and transparently migrate data off their primary storage to the cloud using Moonwalk. The solution enables administrators to run ‘what if’ scenarios to determine the amount of primary storage that can be freed up by running different data migration policies. In traditional ECM solutions the front-end application and the back-end content repository run on separate hardware. They communicate using traditional IP networks usually through a storage gateway. Such an architecture is more cumbersome to manage and suffers from higher document retrieval times due to network latencies and the gateway being a bottleneck.

The combined ParaScale/Moonwalk solution empowers administrators to proactively define data migration policies and enforce them throughout the enterprise. Using such policies, administrators can migrate their infrequently accessed primary data to a private ParaScale storage cloud.

At the front end is the Moonwalk software that can be used to classify data based on location, user, group, size, name, time and other user-defined attributes. Once data has been identified, automatic schedules can be setup to transfer files from primary storage to a virtual file system on the ParaScale cloud. In the event of a user requesting a migrated file, the Moonwalk software seamlessly retrieves it back from the cloud. All this is automatic and transparent to the user. The combined solution also allows administrators to run simulations on their Tier 1 data.
